The Stefan-Morsch-Stiftung – About us

The Stefan-Morsch-Stiftung has been hosting the first German registry of unrelated volunteer bone marrow and stem cell donors since its foundation in 1986.

The mission of the team is the recruitment of volunteers that join the registry to become potential bone marrow and stem cell donors. Donors under consideration for a donation will be accompanied and supported by our staff from the time of registration until the time of donation and will receive comprehensive information, education and advice.

The required blood tests for the detection of the transplant relevant match grade of donor and patient will be coordinated together. The results will be presented to the transplant physician for the final evaluation.

To help patients form all around the world, registration is only necessary once. All our donors and all donors from the other German registries are brought together in the “Zentrales Knochenmarkspender-Register Deutschland (ZKRD)”, the central bone marrow donor registry of Germany.

The merger is carried out with anonymized data (every donor receives a personal identification number), personal contact will happen solely through the staff of the Stefan-Morsch-Stiftung. Since the establishment of the foundation, the Stefan-Morsch-Stiftung has been able to register more than 400.000 volunteer donors in the registry (DE-SMS) which enables us to provide a suitable donor for a leukemia- or tumor patient every day.
